FORTH – FIFTH GRADES

A TIME OF TRANSITIONING

Fourth and Fifth grades are years of transition. Students are working more independently.

Home study at this time for the student still depends greatly on the parent, but looks more to the teacher for support in more complex levels of learning.

Curriculum changes as well. More reading is expected in subject areas, Basic reading and Math have been accomplished, allowing for these skills to be applied in other learning environments.

ASSESSMENTS:

Students are assessed periodically to ensure their understanding of California State standards.

Assessment of learning takes many forms including written assignments, verbal assessments, projects.

Fourth Graders take the state writing test as well as the STAR test.

Fifth Graders take the STAR test as well as the Physical Fitness Test.

CURRICULUM:

Curriculum (textbooks used and learning materials) are California state adopted texts for each grade level.

Curriculum consists of daily work in Language Arts, Math, Science, Social studies, Physical Education supplemented with Music, Art, and Technology.

Art and Music are integrated into the curriculum.

ASSIGNMENTS:

Assignments are given in four week learning periods. Teachers meet weekly with students in this grade range, assisting the parent in delivering instruction, assisting in project based learning. We create a team effort.

TEACHERS:

All elementary school teachers are California credentialed, highly qualified multiple subject K12 educators—many with additional specialties and credentials.
