Somis Academy High School
All stakeholders of Somis Academy, parents, teachers, staff, students, Board and Management participated in a two year study to determine what the expected learning results would be based on the Mission and Vision of the school.
The results of the survey overwhelmingly pointed to the four items described in the acromym:
S A C S – Self Governance, Academic Achievement, Community Citizen and Skills for life.
Students learn Self Governance through active participation with the Supervising Teacher who guides in study skills, independent learning. With assignments given in four week periods, students are given clear deadlines, and opportunities to create their own learning environment.
Students are given and expected to achieve at higher standards and greater growth than they have prior to attending Somis Academy. Students take a self scoring assessment prior to entering and upon exit the school.
Students learn to be community citizens through extensive service involvement and a capstone leadership project.
Students learn skills for life through a variety of graduation pathways that are of interest to the students.
The Mission
Somis Academy honors the individual learner through offering an individualized learning plan for each student as he/she works through the content of the state educational standards for grades Kindergarten-12, including common assessments and data driven instruction.
Upon completion of the program through Somis Academy, a student will be prepared to begin life as an educated person in the twenty-first century; having met state requirements for graduation, developed a leadership project and prepared him/herself with strong character development.
Somis Academy uniquely offers curriculum through classroom, web based school to home and home based education. In addition students are concurrently enrolled at community colleges and ROP.
