SCHOOL OF Visual and Performing Arts
Are You Serious About Your Talent?
· Come to school and get individualized help from teachers or study at home and send in work/tapes. We are flexible
· Receive High School credit for taking private lessons on an instrument/voice, acting in community theater productions, or taking classes from a dance studio.
· Earn an Arts Seal on your SACS high school diploma by fulfilling unit and grade requirements in arts classes.
· Take arts classes at community college/ art school and apply it towards your Arts Seal.
Within Somis Academy, we have a School of Visual and Performing Arts, offering majors in Art, Dance, Drama, and Music. Upon graduation, students who fulfill the requirements receive a special VAPA Seal on their diploma.
Requirements for the Arts SeaL
· Maintains at least a 2.5 average in all subjects, and a 3.0 in arts classes.
· Completes 60 units of arts classes (12 semesters) including 20 units in Service, Leadership, Career Locker, and Technology with a focus on the arts and 40 units of arts classes according to the student's major, which may include classes taken at community colleges and private instruction. The 40 units may include classes from different arts areas.
Art Program: Art Appreciation CP, Art Studio Survey, Drawing & Composition, Digital Photography, Web Page Design, and Graphic Design
Drama Program: Drama 1, Drama 2, Screenwriting, Video Technology
Music Program: Music Theory CP, Music Appreciation CP, Music Technology, Piano (4 levels), Guitar, Musical Theater/Voice, Instrumental Music
Dance: Follow the curriculum of a dance studio of the student's choice, according to State Standards
